In this session we considered why all organisations, which recruit paid staff and volunteers, are legally obliged to follow a Safer Recruitment process.
We then looked in detail about the responsibilities Church Council members and Church Stewards have to embed safer recruitment in their church, reflecting on the standards outlined in the model Church Safeguarding policy and the Church Stewards handbook.
We then went on to think about the Methodist Safer Recruitment Policy and Procedures, in particular the 12 Steps to Safer Recruitment.
As part of step 1 we discussed the local church guide to Safer Recruitment, and I encouraged Churches to adopt or to create something similar.
Church Safer Recruitment Policy
Step 2 highlighted the importance of having an up to date Safeguarding policy in place – preferably the Methodist created model Church Safeguarding Policy.
My presentation was recorded so you can watch it again or for the first time. I've also made my script and the PowerPoint slides available if needed.
