Saltmine Theatre Company

Saltmine Theatre Company is a professional touring theatre company inspired by the life and teaching of Jesus. We have been creating and touring faith motivated arts to churches, schools and theatres throughout the UK since 1980. Each year we tour three Christmas productions: these make ideal outreach events to invite non-Christians to attend where they will enjoy festive entertainment with a message interwoven throughout the play.
Jack and the Beanstalk is Saltmine's new Christmas production for 2024.
Our reimagining of this classic story looks at how we can overcome our fears. We follow the story of three characters who each navigate a different fear we can face in life: fear of the unknown, fear of the past and fear of being vulnerable. During this narrative they will learn two important lessons. Firstly, sometimes the fear is greater than the threat. Secondly, we never have to face our fears alone.
As Christians, we believe that God gives us strength when we need it most, no matter how big our giants may seem. The phrase 'Fear Not' is mentioned 365 times in the Bible, a great reminder that God can give us courage every single day. At Christmas we celebrate that God came right down to earth to join us as Emmanuel, to help us to defeat our fears together.
To find out more about booking this Christmas treat (or festive shows Red Riding Hood and A Christmas Carol) call 01384 454800 or email creative@saltmine.org.

Urban Theology Union

The Urban Theology Union (UTU) has a new course starting at the end of September – Mission 3vangelical for a Post-Christian World certificate course. It has been designed with 3 stand-alone modules to offer more flexibility for people with busy diaries.
It looks to equip all of us for ministry in this post-Christian world by:

  • Grasping how Mark inverts the -isms of Christendom with the radical 3vangelical message of Jesus' saving health and inclusive community;
  • Shepherding a fearless and radical inventory of your role, soul, and context;
  • Hearing, in Module B, the stories of "Odd Evangelicals" (First Nations, LGBTQ, birth activists, and Climate Choir activists as they "sing truth to power") describe their initiatives in ways that can inspire and shape by way of "passing on what we have received" through lived experience;
  • Naming the 10 Joys and 10 Woes of your community -- and planning an initiative of salvage and repair after the strange way of Jesus.

Please contact Jill in the UTU office for more information and a registration form: office@utusheffield.org.uk

  • Has an active desire to be collaborative, creative, contemporary and open to all styles and genres of music.

Worship is central to all that we are and is creative and varied, drawing on both Anglican and Methodist traditions. Our worship pattern includes regular services of Holy Communion, All Age Worship, Taizé services and all the usual special services for the great Festivals throughout the year.
An application pack is available at https://standrewspsalterlane.org.uk/about-us/vacancies/

And finally ...

from the Methodist Prayer Handbook

Eternal God, we seek clarity and reassurance in a bewilderingly complex world.
Grant us the patient trust that will enable us to sense your hand in the emergent, the ambiguous, the random and the fragile. Give us courage to embrace your vulnerability seen in Jesus Christ.
May your Spirit help us to understand it is amid the darkness that your light can be seen most clearly; attune the eyes of faith so that we can detect and follow the glimpses of your kingdom's radiance. In the still, dark night of our days may we behold galaxies of divine light and love and be captivated by the vision of your glory. Amen.
Mike Long, Action for Children Trustee
