The Sheffield Winter Gardens were host to a baking competition with a difference during Fairtrade Fortnight – Strictly Come Baking.  Keen bakers brought along cakes, brownies, biscuits and buns which they had cooked from favourite recipes using

People passing through the Winter Gardens were able to taste the entries and offer their opinions, before the verdict came in from the judges, District Chair Rev Vernon Marsh, Father Tolan of the Hallam Catholic Diocese and the Rev Canon Simon Cowling (Canon Precentor at the Sheffield Cathedral).  Prizes were awarded for the tastiest entry and the most Fairtrade ingredients. as many Fairtrade ingredients as possible.


Acting as head judge Rev Vernon Marsh, said, “I am not sure if tasting all the entries was good for my waistline, but it was very enjoyable.  The Sheffield District has achieved Fairtrade status and we are committed to promoting Fairtrade through imaginative events like this with ecumenical partners”.
