The calling of the Methodist Church is to respond to the gospel of God’s love in Jesus Christ and to live out its discipleship in worship and mission.

Methodism in this area has a strong local presence, a faithful tradition of worship and a growing sense of commitment to the wider community. Combined with strong local loyalties there is an awareness of the need for change, which has resulted in a new sense of local ministry and neighbourhood action in several places.

The Sheffield District is one of 31 Districts of the Methodist Church in Great Britain, it  is made up of eight circuits, and is led by a district chair.
As well, as providing leadership within the district, the chair is a member of the connexional leadership team, with an overview of the whole Connexion.

Districts hold a twice yearly district synod which sets district policy and may bring matters to the Conference. They also hold a ministerial synod for presbyters and deacons, which is an opportunity for ministerial training as well as for debating issues.

It exists to support churches and circuits in their work.

There are currently 8 Circuits in the Sheffield District:-
