Prayer Diary Introduction page

"We do not live to ourselves and we do not die to ourselves. If we live, we live to the Lord, and if we die, we die to the Lord; so then whether we live or whether we die, we are the Lord's." (Romans 14 7-8)

Lord, give us insight and imagination to look beyond our own hopes and needs, so that we may see the world from the perspective of others, and find the direction of our lives within your loving purposes and care for all people. Amen.

Clay Cross Circuit (25/12): Superintendent Minister - Rev James Magee

The east of the circuit covers an ex-mining area where regeneration work is in progress and the residential population is expanding. The western part is a rural area of farming communities, bordering on the Peak District. There are nine congregations and the circuit is facing major changes with the reduction from two presbyteral ministers to one, and the appointment of a lay-worker to work with three churches and be involved in the circuit's youth work.

Give thanks for:

Increased sharing of resources and new initiatives throughout the circuit, as seen in the recent Circuit Fun and Faith Day for people of all ages.
The many and varied offers of gifts and talents to be used in the life of the circuit in response to a circuit service on the theme of vocation.
The generous giving to the Circuit Mission project, MRDF work in El Salvador, and other expressions of concern for those in need in our world.

Please pray for:

Jim Magee and Jonathan Reeve and their families as they take up their appointments in September.
New ventures in outreach to the community of Grassmoor, once their new hall/extension is completed.
The leadership team, as they adapt to new ways of working with the opening of the new circuit office, and hold the circuit together in unity of purpose.

Loving God, when we feel ready to rest content with the limited horizons of our lives, you challenge us with a wider vision, a greater awareness of humanity's needs and a more radical understanding of the values of your kingdom. Help us to live our lives for you, in our words, our actions and our care for the earth and all its peoples. In Christ's name, Amen.
