Introduction

At the start of a new Connexional year, there is always the tendency to want to spend more time looking back at what has taken place, than looking forward in eager anticipation to all that lies ahead. Many of the things mentioned in the following pages reflect the wonderful and marvellous ways in which God works. We all need to remember that we are only a small part of a much larger picture. Whilst we are rightly concerned about what is taking place in our own local church and area, great things are also taking place elsewhere in our Circuits and our District. God is also at work in the neighbouring Districts and throughout the whole country.

As I write this, news has just come through about the severe floods in South Yorkshire. It will take a long time before all the damage is repaired and things are back to normal. Please pray for those who have had to leave their flooded homes. May they, in the time before they are able to return following repairs, know the deep assurance that God knows and understands all their feelings and fears, and that He can be with them at all times. Please remember also in your prayers those Christians whose churches have been flooded. As they start the long process of repair and re-instatement of the premises, may they show that even in the most difficult of circumstances, they have the peace of God in their lives.

The Methodist Conference has approved steps that will involve many changes, both at national and local level. Pray for those who are as a result of this, facing changes in their day to day lives. At local level, may people be willing to face change and accept it as an opportunity to go forward and proclaim that amidst all changes here on earth, we serve an unchanging and faithful God.

It may be that as a result of changes in the Sheffield District, the format of this booklet may have to be revised, for instance a smaller number of Circuits would require fewer pages. One suggestion that was received that a map of the District, showing all the Circuits should be included, has had to be left for this year because of the limitations imposed in preparing the pages without full access to the internet and email.

As you bring the matters for prayer that are mentioned in this handbook, to our all-powerful and mighty God, may you also be richly blessed in all your work and service for Him.
