The Sheffield District has its own Methodist Ministers' Housing Association, which was formed in May 1951 and is a registered charity. Its object is to provide housing and associated amenities for retired ministers, deacons and deaconesses, retired lay missionaries who have served with the Methodist Missionary Society (MCOD) and their widows or widowers. The Association was the first to recognise the need for such provision.
The Association is managed by a commitee, which meets three times a year and whose members are drawn from various circuits throughout the District. At the present time the Association has ten properties - six in Sheffield, two in Chesterfield, and one each in Rotherham and Doncaster. The properties have been aquired over the years, either by way of legacies from people who had no descendents or by purchase from donations to the Association.
It is the committee's policy to maintain its properties to a high standard and to keep the rents at a reasonable level. Rent income is enhanced by gifts and donations from individuals, churches and some of the circuits in the District. The committee members and Association officers do a great deal of voluntary work in respect of the Association's properties and this keeps the overheads to a minimum.
The Secretary of the Association is Mr Peter Metcalf.
