Sad News

It is with sadness that we heard the news of the death on Friday of the Revd Dr John Simmonds, a supernumerary minister who lived in the Chesterfield Circuit. Our thoughts and prayers are with his wife, Christine, and family.

There will be a service of Committal at Brimmington Crematorium, Chesterfield,  followed by a service of thanksgiving at Hasland Methodist Church, at 11:30 on Monday 7 October.

Fairtrade Foundation

Join the party!

The Fairtrade mark is 25 years old this year and the Fairtrade Foundation are hoping people will celebrate with a party sometime during October. Our suggestion is that if churches are holding a coffee morning or some other similar event then you could easily turn it into a birthday party for the Fairtrade mark using resources available on the the Fairtrade Foundation website. (If October isn’t convenient then I don’t think it really matters if it is in November!)

GDPR – One Year On

GDPR has now been in place for more than 12 months and yesterday Katrin attended one of the TMCP  guidance and training sessions. There was a lot to take in, but relevant information will be shared in due course. It is important that all churches and circuits (and the District) have completed the data-mapping form, and review this on a regular basis.

We are considering holding a short training session on GDPR to help churches comply with these regulations. Please let the office know if you would be interested in such a session.

OUT OF SIGHT – OUT OF MIND

Saturday 9 November – Yeadon Methodist Church, Wharfedale & Aireborough Circuit

A day of exploration on Mental Health led by Revd Andrew Howorth

Mental ill- health can affect any of us at any time. Why is it still so often hidden from view or even stigmatised? Thinking of our congregations and the community, how can churches respond with care, compassion and understanding?

Combining expert input and group interaction, the day is designed to help us

  • Know more about mental health issues across all ages
  • Gain a deeper understanding of the experience of the sufferer and their family and carers
  • Explore the practical responses of the church
  • Reflect on how our Christian theology can inform positive approaches

Places are free but there will be a donations plate for freewill offerings towards expenses. We advise early booking as places are limited. Bring own lunch please! Drinks and cake will be provided throughout the day.
