New Short Course programme for 2019-20

The Certificate in Parenting for Faith course is another addition to the Short Course programme developed as a result of our partnership with BRF (www.brf.org.uk). We welcome Becky Sedgwick, BRF’s Local Parenting for Faith Coordinator as our Course Leader, and Rachel Turner, Parenting for Faith Pioneer as one of the teaching team. Parenting for Faith (https://parentingforfaith.org/) is part of the BRF ‘family’, and we are delighted to be developing a teaching course in partnership aimed at both reflection and practice. The teaching week will be delivered Monday 1st – Friday 5th June 2020.

Details of the course can be found via this link, which is now live: https://www.cliffcollege.ac.uk/certificate-in-parenting-for-faith/

UTU – What makes a good city? Series 3

Are we ready to send poverty to hell?

Wednesday, 17 July 2019: 12-1.30pm

Simon Duffy, Director of the Centre for Welfare will talk on his provocative title.  He has long been concerned about the increasing inequities of the Welfare system in this country. The respondent will be Rev Henry Ohakah, Methodist Minister in Woodseats .

Seek the welfare of the city where I have sent you into exile, and pray to the LORD on its behalf, for in its welfare you will find your welfare. Jeremiah 29:7

We are continuing looking at the issues where faith and civic or public life overlap.

As usual our speaker’s theme after their address will be considered by a respondent, and then open discussion.

The Forums meet monthly on Wednesdays in UTU’s library area in the basement of Victoria Hall Methodist Church, Sheffield S1 2JB (entrance in Chapel Walk).  Bring your own packed lunch. Tea and coffee will be available. People of Christian faith, other faiths or none are all welcome. These Forum sessions are open to all and free of charge.

Enquiries should be addressed to UTU: 0114 2709907 /office@utusheffield.org.uk

Navigating Change Conference 2019

Navigating Change is a movement that is concerned about the future of the Methodist Church in the UK. The figures speak for themselves, as year on year we have continued to decline in numbers to the point where it has become a critical issue.

This movement could be a starting point for you and your leadership to regain a sense of urgency and energy, to catch a fresh vision and to begin the process toward growing and planting new churches.

19-20 November – Swanbank Methodist Church

Mission Shaped Ministry

A one-year part-time learning journey in a supportive community.

The Anglican Diocese of Leeds, Yorkshire West Methodist District, Yorkshire Baptist Association and The Salvation Army are delighted to make MSM available locally. We believe it will be a significant resource for building the Kingdom of God in this area. Individuals are most welcome, but we particularly hope that small groups from a church or fresh  expression will come as this will deepen the impact of the course.
