Here is a list of some of the Learning and Training Opportunities that are happening both locally and further afield.

Learning Hubs

Sheffield Circuit with CaSS (Christians and Sheffield Schools) are running 4 learning hubs between September and May next year.

The sessions are aimed at anyone with involvement or interest in young people – youth workers and volunteers, parents, grandparents, ministers, next door neighbours, teachers etc.

Autumn Colloquia 2018

What makes a good city?

Seek the welfare of the city where I have sent you into exile, and pray to the Lord on its behalf, for in its welfare you will find your welfare. Jeremiah 29:7

The colloquia will run from 12 noon to 130 pm in UTU’s library area in the basement of Victoria Hall Methodist Church, Sheffield (entrance in Chapel Walk).  Bring your own packed lunch. Tea and coffee will be available.

Wednesday 5 December. John Mothersole on Economic Prosperity.  John Mothersole is Chief Executive of Sheffield City Council, having formerly been the Council’s Executive Director of Development, Environment and Leisure. He is heavily involved in the development of Sheffield and the wider City Region. He has previously worked in local government in Camden and Newcastle-under-Lyme.

How to … use the Arts in Worship

Saturday 26 January :; 10am  to 3:15pm : Wesley Hall, Crookes, Sheffield

Join us for an exciting day exploring worship through the arts.  Listen to our Keynote Rik Stott on ‘Celebrating Uncertainty: How art leads us deeper into knowing God, ourselves and each other’.

Explore six different ways of worshipping God through our workshops:

  • ‘Journalling With Stitches’ using free stitching as an approach to prayerfully reflect on moments and events in our lives with Ruth Sprague
  • ‘The Word(s)’ poetry in worship with Rev James Morley
  • ‘A Picture Paints a Thousand Praises’ worship through picture-making’ with Siggy Parratt-Halbert
  • ‘What a performance!’ Making the most of drama, storytelling, or reading in worship’ with Rev Merry Evans
  • ‘Praying on a Visual Culture‘ visuals have been used for centuries, from early wall paintings, to medieval stained glass and icons.  In our current visual and digital culture, how might visuals help us to pray and worship?’ with Fidge Fidgin
  • ‘Singing Ourselves Open’ learn to sing a range of short songs in a variety of styles, to open you up, loosen your bodies and enable you to express what’s inside – perfect for both personal and group worship’  with Alison Adam of the Iona Community

The event is free, but please do book, as lunch is included.

Exploring Discipleship and Holy Habits within a Messy Church context

Saturday 4 February 2018 – Greenhill Methodist Church, Sheffield

We will be exploring discipleship within a Messy Church context, through exploring how the Holy Habits materials, written by Andrew Roberts, could be incorporated into a Messy Church context. The training will be delivered jointly by Lucy Moore and Andrew Roberts.

Puppet  Ministry – Volunteer Training Workshop

Saturday 23 March : 10am to 12 noon : Woodseats Methodist Church
