This Week’s News

Office News

The District Office will be closed this Friday (3 August) and again from Monday 20 August to Tuesday 28 August.

Moving on

August is generally the month when ministers move into their new manses. Sheffield and Barnsley Circuit have said farewell to Revd David and Kristen Markay and we hope that their move to London goes smoothly.

We look forward to welcoming Revd Ben Scrivins to the Barnsley Circuit, Revd James Morley and Revd Gail Hunt to the Sheffield Circuit and Deacon David Hunt to the Peak Circuit & Cliff College.

The District Induction Day will be on Thursday 27 September. This is open to all who have started work within the Sheffield District over the last year, lay or ordained. More information will follow shortly.

The Theme for synods this year is Passionate Worship. The Synod Planning group  feel that this is something that might be of interest to local preacher and worship leaders as well, so they will also be invited to attend to hear the keynote speaker. Full details are still being worked out, but do put the dates in your diaries now: Saturday 8 September at Central Methodist Church, Chesterfield and Saturday 6 April 2019 at Greenhill Methodist Church, Sheffield.

Training and Learning Opportunities

Stories for the Soul and Godly Play

Godly Play is an established yet innovative approach to Christian nurture. Although first developed for use with children, it also supports the spiritual well-being of adults, including older people in care settings – where it is more usefully named ‘Stories for the Soul’. This empowering method can be used in contexts such as intergenerational worship, schools, chaplaincy, children’s work on Sundays, youth groups, and adult small groups. www.godlyplay.uk/

An introductory day is being offered on Saturday 30 October in Sheffield.
