GDPR update

To help Managing Trustees of Local Methodist Churches, Circuits, and Districts to better understand their obligations under the new General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and implement relevant policies and procedures, two training events are being offered by TMCP and the Connexional Team (‘together the Working Party’). Spaces are limited, so they have asked that only one person from a circuit/District attend these. Katrin Hackett will be attending on behalf of the Sheffield District and she will be the key point of contact within the District for any queries about Data Protection requirements.

A web based version of the training will be available on www.tmcp.org.uk shortly afterward.

Change of location

The Networking and Training Evening for Youth and Children’s Workers and Volunteers on Wednesday 16th May, initially at Victoria Hall Methodist Church, is now taking place in Room 3 at Central URC, which is next door to Victoria Hall, still from 7-9pm. The topic for the evening is Mental Health. For more info, contact Jonathan Buckley on 07450 778678 or jonathan.buckley@sheffieldcircuit.org.uk.’

Have a great Christian Aid Week!

As this is the last fortnightly update before Christian Aid Week begins next weekend, we wanted to wish you all the very best for everything you have planned. From coffee mornings to collections, services to concerts, we thank you so much for all your hard work and commitment to help those living in poverty around the world. If you need any last minute resources or support before Christian Aid Week, please do get in touch with us in the East Midlands office or your local regional coordinator or you can visit our website: https://www.christianaid.org.uk/christian-aid-week

Have you seen Vilia’s video?

Our Christian Aid Week video this year focuses on the story of Vilia, whose house saved lives when Hurricane Matthew hit in 2016. More than fifty people took shelter in her home when their own houses were destroyed. It was thanks to Christian Aid that Vilia’s home, given to her after she lost everything in the 2010 earthquake, was built to withstand earthquakes and hurricanes. Watch Vilia’s story, as she tells it in her own words, on our Youtube channel https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3KuCEPMnxkM or you can download it from our website: https://www.christianaid.org.uk/christian-aid-week/resources

New campaign Uprooted and Overlooked

Get involved in our new campaign on displacement. Two-thirds of people forced from home are still in their own country. Seeking safety but unwilling or unable to leave, they are denied the official protection given to refugees. Many of the world’s displaced remain hidden or ignored. Will you read their stories and join us as we fight for a fair deal for all displaced people? Get involved by emailing your MP asking them to support displaced people or volunteer to host our church exhibition tour to raise awareness of internally displaced people. Find out more by visiting: https://www.christianaid.org.uk/campaigns/uprooted-overlooked
