This Week’s News

President and Vice President’s visit

You can see where the President, Revd Loraine Mellor, and Vice President, Mrs Jill Baker are going to be this week here: President and Vice President’s visit to the District. It will be updated with photos as events take place. Last night Loraine and Jill both spoke about how aware they were of the prayers for them in their presidential year, so you may wish to use this page to continue to uphold them.

Sad News

It is with sadness that we share the news of the death of Mr Joe Carpenter, husband of Jennifer Carpenter (former Vice President of Conference). The funeral will be 1:15 on November 8 at Hutcliffe Wood, followed by a service at the Beacon Broomhill church. Our thoughts and prayers are with Jenny and the family.

Christmas Appeal 2018

It may still only be October but we could not wait to share our great news with you! Our Christmas Appeal this year is being supported by UK Aid, meaning that every pound you give, the UK Government will give a pound more! Donations made to the Christmas Appeal between 6 November 2017 and 5 February 2018 will be matched up to £2.7 million. That’s double the support for people living in poverty! Will Aid

There’s still time…have you signed up to make a will with Will Aid this November? Participating solicitors will waive their fee for writing a basic Will. Instead, they invite clients to make a voluntary donation to Will Aid, through which Christian Aid and eight other charities share the proceeds. To find out more about this fantastic scheme or see where your nearest participating solicitor is, please visit: https://www.willaid.org.uk/

Rohingya Crisis Appeal

Horrific violence persists in Myanmar, with entire villages burned. Neighbourhoods have become like ghost towns. Many displaced people from northern Rakhine remain in the country, surviving in camps. Supplies are dwindling. Families are in desperate need of food supplies, clean water and medical care. The situation has worsened with recent flooding affecting makeshift camps and forcing people to move to other areas.

The Bangladesh Government and aid agencies are struggling to cope with the rising needs and humanitarian agencies are struggling to access people in need in Myanmar. We are on the ground, providing urgent support to these vulnerable, displaced people. But with your help, we could do so much more. Please donate to our Rohingya Crisis Appeal today: https://www.christianaid.org.uk/emergencies/rohingya-crisis-appeal

We’ve got exciting news to share with you. This winter, as part of our Untapped appeal, the UK Government will match all donations made between 1 November and 31 January 2018 up to £5 million!

In the next few weeks we’ll be sending you more information about the appeal – our most ambitious ever – but in the meantime, we wanted to share a very short film about the amazing difference we’re hoping to make possible this winter.
