The Council of Christians and Jews

The Council of Christians and Jews (CCJ) is the leading nationwide forum for Christian-Jewish engagement:

The Sheffield Branch of the CCJ meets during the Summer months in Psalter Lane, to provide an opportunity for meaningful dialogue, to learn, to form lasting relationships and create opportunities to meet and share experiences. Our core values are:

Church Action on Poverty

Sheffield Church Action on Poverty invites you to join us for our ninth annual pilgrimage on Saturday October 21st

We will meet at Victoria Hall on Norfolk Street at 9.30 am.

In the Arena is a men’s event where we will share with you helpful strategies to strengthen and empower you. Discover the importance of preparation and training that enables you to survive the tough times that can affect your most important relationships, work and inner or spiritual life. Our speakers, Philip Jinadu and Gerrit Bantjes will talk about critical areas of everyday life such as friendships, finance, character and career.

Training & Learning Opportunities

Breakout Gathering for Pioneers

Wed 13 Sept to Fri 15 Sept 2017

Theme :  Radical and Rooted –Where we will discover that we need to go deeper into Gods love to enable us to go further for his kingdom with the help of 3 great speakers  Carolyn Skinner, Calvin Samuel and Paul Unsworth

We do this through:

  1. Engaged minds. By helping people to think deeply about mission and pioneering
  2. Practical resources.  Providing a forum for resources, help and ideas from those attending & speakers
  3. Personal renewal. By interrupting our journeys to meet with God
  4. Community. Meeting up & hanging out with like minded pioneers.

This year will again have a stream for ‘new pioneers’ as part of our programme and As usual there will be plenty of time for meeting old and new friends, having fun, and learning & worshipping together.

We will have an opportunity to share resources that have helped you in ministry – please bring your ideas with you .

Word 2017

Saturday 23 September – The King’s Cross Church, Hexthorpe

WORD 2017 is a one day meeting with three sessions aimed at building up everyone in our faith and encouraging action. It will be at The King’s Cross Church Hexthorpe, Doncaster on Saturday 23rd September starting at 9 . 30 am with welcome drinks and finishing at 3 pm. Mark Reasbeck, the pastor of two newly planted churches in Barnsley will speak from 1 Peter about ‘A Gospel Centred Church’. Mark’s heart is for evangelism, church planting and discipleship. Safeguarding – Train the Trainer

Saturday 21 October – Victoria Hall, Sheffield

Laura Gallery (Safeguarding Officer in the Yorkshire North and East District) and Revd Carla Quenet are delighted to be offering a Safeguarding ‘Train the Trainer’ session.  This will enable individuals to deliver the Safeguarding training that all Churches and Circuits need to engage in.

The training will take place on Saturday 21st October at Victoria Hall, Sheffield in room 46 (entrance via Chapel Walk)

The training timings are as follows:

  • 9.30am            Refreshments
  • 10am               Session 1
  • 12 noon          Lunch provided
  • 12.45               Session 2
  • 2pm                 Finish

Attendance to the event needs to be confirmed by Friday 13th October 2017.  We would also need to know of any additional requirements of the participants by this date.

ACAT Training Workshop

As part of ACAT’s commitment to regional training for church treasurers, we are bringing Training Workshop No. 5 to Goole during our autumn season. I am pleased to invite you to attend at:

This workshop addresses important issues which all treasurers face in this current climate. Practical guidance will be given on planning & implementing church projects of all kinds – buildings, missions, community events etc. for a successful outcome. We are delighted to be joined by experienced guest speakers for these sessions, including a newly added presentation on contactless giving:

  • Budgeting for & Planning a Project –  “Whatever the nature of the project, careful planning is essential if it is to be delivered successfully and as originally conceived” – speaker: Robert Scott-Biggs, ACAT Tutor
  • Managing RiskPlaces of worship have a legal and regulatory requirement to keep employees and visitors safe. This session addresses how to meet that obligation,looking at all matters relating to church life including buildings, safety, recruitment, travel, litigation – speaker: David Edwards, Insurance Professional
  • Exploring Income Streams for ChurchesAs we face financial challenges, Steve explores several funding streams which enable us to fund the fabric, ministry and mission of our church – speaker: Steve Pierce – Director of Learning & Stewardship, Diocese of Liverpool

The cost for the training day is £45 and includes all course material, refreshments and a buffet lunch.  Registration will be from 9.30 am onwards for a prompt start at 10.00 am and will finish at 4.00 pm.  Please book early to secure your place if you wish to attend.  You do not have to be a member of ACAT to take part in our training.
