This Week’s News

Temenos series

The TEMENOS series of 10 paintings and poems explores the idea of threshold space and is the latest collaboration between Sheffield-based artist Ric Stott and Plymouth-based poet Ian Adams.

A temenos is a place that is both safe and precarious, where a new thing can emerge. It is a sanctuary where we are able to open ourselves up to new possibilities and new ways of being.

Each painting overlays image, colour and gesture and the poems weave words that open up spaces and invite each viewer to bring their own personal stories and experiences as they interact with the work.

The full set of paintings and poems are available to exhibit from September 2017. We are now taking bookings from those interested in showing the work in a public venue and simply ask that transport costs are covered. In addition an artist’s talk, poetry evening and/or led meditations that engage with the work can also be arranged.

For more information contact Ric Stott: rjstott@hotmail.co.uk, Tel: 07795694611

You can also buy A3 prints of these via the District Website shop : Temenos

Thank You

Revd Henry C Ohaka has an idea to help finance the school kids of his homeland.

The African Day on Saturday  9 September realised a fabulous £486.00.  It was a great success and a great big thank you to all who made it a brilliant event.

The folk who provided the food, the folk who provided the entertainment and the folk who attended made it a great day of fun and fellowship for everyone.

On behalf of the recipients many, many thanks.

Just keep an eye open for more events in the coming months to support this vision.

Youth and Children’s Project Launched

Sheffield Methodist Circuit have launched a brand new Youth and Children’s Project this week, with Jonathan Buckley co-ordinating the project. The project is looking to work with local Churches across the Circuit to enable them to empower local Children and Young People, both within the local Church and the local Community, to fulfil their God-given potential. Among other things, the project is looking to develop monthly prayer breakfasts for those involved in youth and children’s work, bi-monthly training events in mid-week and at weekends, residentials and circuit-wide events for young people, alongside helping and supporting Churches on a local level.

Jonathan joins the Circuit from YMCA White Rose, where he was undertaking Youth and Children’s Work in Parson Cross in partnership with the local Methodist Church. He is also a tutor on the Aurora Youth Ministry Course, which is accredited by Cliff College, and is part of the planning group for the Joined Up Conference. He enjoys watching a variety of sports, including non-league football – he’s becoming a bit of a local ground-hopper – and watching Sheffield Steelers; he also enjoys walking in the Peak District and taking part in his local Parkrun.

Jonathan would love to connect with as many people as possible to explore how the project can support local Churches empower local young people to reach their God-given potential; he’s also very keen to show off photos of Alfie James Buckley, his and his wife’s (Teresa) first child, who was born on September 8th at 2.17am. You may get him to talk about Youth or Children’s work after he’s shown you the latest photos! You can contact him via email jonathan.buckley@sheffieldcircuit.org.uk or phone 07450 778678.

Does business serve God or mammon?

Saturday 4th November 2017

9.30 for 10am – 4pm, Bradford Cathedral

What’s the impact of our business on other people, the planet and ourselves? Whom exactly are we serving at work: customers, management or God?

Jesus said that we can’t serve both God and mammon. What did he mean, and which values, behaviours and outcomes will result in us receiving the accolade in Matthew 25, “Well done, good and faithful servant”?

We will hear from four godly thought-leaders, with time to question, reflect and discuss, to enable you to create your response to this central question for Christians in business.
