Sheffield District Safeguarding Event

Tim Carter, National Safeguarding Adviser for the Methodist Church, was the guest speaker at the Sheffield District Safeguarding Event on March 15th. 50 local church Safeguarding Officers and ministers from around the District attended the event at Handsworth MC.  Tim spoke about the history of safeguarding in the church and described future plans and priorities . Above all he exhorted us to be ‘joyful’ in our safeguarding work.

There was opportunity to reflect on what Tim had spoken about and how it might apply locally, and the occasion was used to launch a draft role profile for church safeguarding officers.

Revd. Gill Newton led an act of re-dedication and commitment which was a really helpful way of underpinning and affirming the vital importance of safeguarding in the life of our churches.

Attendees were also able to take away a good deal of free resource material that had ben provided by the District, Sheffield City Council, Restored and the Stop it Now campaign.
