District Advance Fund – Grants 2015/16

We make grants from our Advance Fund to support mission projects, property development and training in our circuits, churches and beyond. Applications for grants are considered in accordance with our Mission Policy

During the year ended 31 August 2016, we awarded the following Advance Fund grants to organisations:

Property grants

Christ Church Stocksbridge £41,000 – partial demolition, refurbishment and extension of church premises for Methodist/ URC church. christchurchonline.org/developments/

Fountain Square Church, Tideswell £37,500 – refurbishment of Methodist/ URC chapel to support community and worship activities, including full disabled access and café area. www.fountainsquarechurch.org/

Adwick Methodist Church £850 – improvements to patio area to address safety concerns and allow use for outreach and community events. adwickmethodist.webeden.co.uk/

The Kings Cross Church, Hexthorpe £16,400 – redevelopment of church hall complex to provide mini sports hall and other facilities not otherwise available to the community. www.hexthorpemethodist.org.uk/

Greenhill Methodist Church £80,000 – demolition and rebuild of significant parts of church complex to provide larger and updated premises required for community engagement. www.greenhillmethodistchurch.com/

Inkersall Methodist Church £6,000 – feasibility study into redevelopment of church premises in partnership with another organisation

Mission projects

Freedom Community Project officer worker £46,000 – increased administrative support during period of rapid growth for this community engagement and volunteering project. fcgroup.org.uk/

The Kings Cross Church, Hexthorpe, Junction manager £16,000 – continuation of support for community advice and drop-in centre in a converted pub. www.hexthorpemethodist.org.uk/The Junction

Rural Action Derbyshire – Peak Park rural chaplain £2,000 – continuation of rural chaplain and extending reach through establishing a network of volunteer associate chaplains. www.ruralactionderbyshire.org.uk/

Castleton PCC, Hope Valley progression worker £10,600 – engagement of a Messy Church co-ordinator to work with churches, schools and communities in the Hope Valley. hopevalleymessychurch

Doncaster Methodist Circuit, RE Scheme £36,000 – development of project resourcing engaging introduction to Christian faith through RE syllabus across Doncaster primary schools, including church visits, Godly Play, lessons and assemblies. RE Team newsletter

Thomas Rotherham sixth form college, multifaith chaplaincy £1,500 – new enabling volunteer-run chaplaincy to develop a prayer space, human library experience and celebration of religious festivals.


We also made grants from unrestricted funds in 2015/16 of £1,000 to the Sheffield Diocese towards the “Joined Up” conference for children’s, schools and youth workers, and £7,945 to Churches Together in South Yorkshire.
