Creating Safer Space

“There is a growing understanding that protecting children, young people and vulnerable adults is at the core of our faith. Safeguarding is about creating churches that are a safe space for everyone; a space where children can flourish and adults can live up to their potential. It is about enabling everyone to come to Jesus without stumbling blocks of abuse, ignorance, fear, compassion fatigue or the failure to recognise the experiences that so many carry within our communities.”
Elizabeth Hall, Safeguarding Advisor, Methodist Church in Britain

Creating Safer Space

Creating Safer Space is the connexional safeguarding training framework and consists of two modules: Foundation Module and Leadership Module, which are mandatory for key roles in the church.

Foundation Module

A list of roles which require attendance on the Foundation Module is available on the Creating Safer Space page on the Methodist Church’s website (follow link).
Each circuit has access to Creating Safer Space Foundation Module trainers. The circuit superintendent or circuit safeguarding co-ordinator will have a list of these people.
If there is a shortage of trainers in the circuit, Grahame Snelling, Executive Officer for Safeguarding and the District Office will be able to link trainers to where there is a need for training.
Alternatively, if you are interested in becoming a Foundation Module trainer, contact Rachel McCallam, Regional Learning & Development Officer on mccallamr@methodistchurch.org.uk
